Founder & Lead Engineer

Ex-RAF. Ex-Fire Service.
100% Brechin Local.

I served as a Retained Firefighter with Brechin Fire Service and a Royal Air Force Electrical Engineer. I've seen too many house fires caused by dodgy DIY repairs and ignored faults.

That's why I never dismiss "small" electrical jobs. A loose connection today is a house fire tomorrow. When you call me for a socket repair or flickering light, I treat it with the same urgency and professionalism as a full rewire. Your family's safety matters.

Why You Should Never Ignore Small Electrical Faults

Small problems become big fires. Here's why professional electrical repairs matter for your family's safety.

Fire
Risk

Loose connections cause arcing and heat buildup. A flickering socket today can be a house fire tomorrow. Don't take the risk.

Insurance
Valid

DIY electrical work voids your home insurance. Professional repairs keep you legally covered and compliant with Building Regulations.

Shock
Prevention

Faulty sockets can cause electric shocks. We test every repair with professional equipment to ensure you and your family are safe.

Peace of
Mind

Stop worrying about that dodgy socket. A proper repair by a qualified electrician means you can sleep soundly at night.

Small Electrical Repairs FAQs

? What's your call-out charge?

Our standard call-out fee includes arrival, diagnosis (up to 30 mins), and a fixed quote for the repair. Typical small repairs cost £80-£150 total, including parts and labour.

? Do you do emergency call-outs?

Yes. If you have a dangerous fault (burning smell, sparking, no power), we prioritize emergency work and aim to reach you within 2-4 hours in Brechin and Edzell.

? What are the most common electrical faults you fix?

Burnt sockets (loose connections), RCD trips (earth faults), dead circuits (damaged cables), flickering lights (poor connections), and blown MCBs (overloaded circuits).

? Can I fix a socket myself?

No. In Scotland, ALL electrical work must be carried out by a registered electrician and notified to Building Control. DIY electrical work is illegal and voids your insurance.

? Why does my RCD keep tripping?

RCDs trip when they detect an earth fault—current leaking to ground. Common causes: damaged appliance cables, water ingress, or faulty circuits. We use insulation resistance testers to find the exact fault.

? How long does a typical small repair take?

Most socket replacements or switch repairs take 30-60 minutes once diagnosed. More complex fault-finding can take 1-2 hours depending on access and testing required.

? Will you leave a mess?

No. We carry dustsheets and vacuum cleaners. If we drill holes or lift floorboards, we clean up thoroughly and reinstate surfaces properly.

? Can you repair old bakelite sockets?

We don't repair them—we replace them with modern, safe equivalents. Old bakelite sockets are a fire risk and should be upgraded to BS 1363 standard.

? Do you provide a warranty?

Yes. All our repair work is guaranteed for 12 months. If the same fault recurs within a year, we'll return and fix it free of charge.

? What payment methods do you accept?

Cash, bank transfer, or card payment via SumUp. We invoice you on completion, and payment is due immediately unless you're a commercial account holder.

? Can you visit in the evening?

Yes. We offer evening and weekend appointments for urgent repairs, with a small premium charge for out-of-hours work.

? What if you can't fix it on the day?

If we need specialist parts or the job is bigger than expected, we'll quote you properly and book a return visit. You only pay the call-out fee until the work is completed.
